HARKER HEIGHTS, TX – In a District 12-6A showdown that proved a game isn't over until the final out, the Temple Tem-Cats saw a commanding early lead slip away Tuesday night. Despite out-hitting their opponents 13 to nine, the Tem-Cats fell to the Harker Heights Knights in a 7-6 thriller decided by late-inning miscues.
Early Dominance
Temple wasted no time asserting authority. In the top of the first, Madyson Combs laced a double to center field and Saniya Maxwell followed with a sharp single down the left-field line. Both hits drove in runs to give the Tem-Cats an immediate 2-0 cushion.
The momentum continued into the second inning when Ava Machuca executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to stretch the lead to 3-0. By the middle of the third, Temple held a 4-1 advantage thanks to a Knights' defensive error.
The Tide Turns
The Tem-Cats appeared to be in control with a 5-1 lead in the fourth, but the Knights began their slow climb back. The real shift occurred in the bottom of the sixth when Harker Heights' Janelly Rios sent a three-run blast over the center-field fence, cutting Temple’s lead to a narrow 6-5.
In the top of the seventh, Temple looked to regain some breathing room. Glory Foreman and Kyliegh Juarez both notched one-out singles to put pressure on the Knights' defense. However, the rally stalled after a strikeout and a hard-hit lineout by Sha’kyhria Freeman to left field.
A Costly Seventh
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the Tem-Cats leading 6-5, a defensive error extended the inning for Harker Heights. Given a second life, the Knights capitalized on the chaos. Both the tying and winning runs crossed the plate on passed balls, handing Harker Heights the comeback victory.
By the Numbers
Temple's offense was firing on all cylinders despite the loss, led by a stellar 3-for-4 performance from Glory Foreman.
London Armour: 2-for-3 with a double and a team-high 2 RBIs.
Saniya Maxwell: 2-for-4 with a double.
Sha’kyhria Freeman: 2-for-4 with a double.

For the Knights, Janelly Rios was the catalyst, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Harker Heights also showed great plate discipline, drawing six walks to keep the pressure on the Temple defense.
