BELTON — The Temple JV Tem-Cat track and field team put on a dominant display of depth and speed this past Saturday at Tiger Field. Competing in the Denise Petter Big Red Relays, the Tem-Cats secured a strong 2nd place overall finish in the team standings, racking up 120 points.
While Harker Heights took the top spot with 132 points and host Belton followed in 3rd with 96, Temple’s presence was felt most acutely on the podium.
Sprint Dominance and Relay Gold
The Tem-Cats were nearly untouchable in the relay events, sweeping both the 4x100 and 4x200 titles. The 4x100 team (Wilkerson, Locklear, Wilson, Williams) blazed a trail with a time of 51.37, while the 4x200 squad (Bethel, Wilkerson, Smith, Locklear) clocked in at a golden 1:50.19.
Individually, Jaahmya Bethel proved to be the fastest girl on the track, claiming 1st place in the 100-meter dash with a swift 13.28. She was well-supported by Maliyah Gage, who earned a bronze medal in the same event.
Field and Distance Success
The success wasn't limited to the lanes. In the field, Kimorah Fillmore powered her way to a 2nd place finish in the Shot Put with a toss of 29’2. Cykhiah White was a standout multi-eventer, securing two bronze medals in both the High Jump and Long Jump.
On the track, Aniyah Wilson added to the medal tally with a silver in the 200 meters, while the 4x400 relay team capped off the day with a gritty 3rd-place finish to solidify Temple's runner-up status in the overall standings.
