TEMPLE, TX — The Temple Wildcat Powerlifting team officially kicked off their 2026 season this past Wednesday, January 14, competing in the BISD Invitational. Held right in their own backyard at the Frank Mayborn Civic and Convention Center, the Wildcats tested their strength against a crowded field in the traditional trio of lifts: the squat, bench press, and deadlift.
Fillmore Dominates the 308s
The highlight of the day belonged to Bradley Fillmore, who secured a 1st Place finish in the 308 lb. division. Fillmore put on a clinic of raw power, posting a massive 1,290 lb. total. His gold-medal performance was anchored by a 500 lb. squat, a 335 lb. bench press, and a 455 lb. deadlift.
Heavyweight Highlights
The Wildcats saw several lifters fight their way onto the leaderboard in highly competitive weight classes:
Javier Agard earned a podium spot, taking 3rd Place in the 242 lb. division with a strong total lift of 1,130 lbs.
Teiaurione Thomas broke the thousand-pound barrier, securing 5th Place in the 198 lb. division with a 1,015 lb. total.
Eric Shelly broke into the top ten, taking 8th Place in the 181 lb. division (965 lbs. total).
Diego Hartness also competed in the 242 lb. division, finishing in 7th Place with an 800 lb. total.
Building Momentum
In the 275 lb. division, Jayson Cintron (12th place, 815 lbs.) and Elija Cantu (13th place, 755 lbs.) gained valuable experience as the team looks to build depth for the upcoming regional qualifiers.
What's Next?
The Wildcats won't have much time to rest. They will be back on the platform on Saturday, January 24, as they travel to the Copperas Cove Bulldawg Invitational. The meet will be held at SC Lee Junior High, where Temple looks to improve their totals and climb the regional rankings.
