Temple falls to Heights in 12-6A finale but earns playoff berth

KILLEEN — Playing its District 12-6A finale Thursday night at Leo Buckley Stadium, Temple didn’t want to rely on help elsewhere to capture its second straight playoff berth.

Of course, first-place Harker Heights — which already had clinched at least a tie for its fourth consecutive district championship — had no desire to share the league title with anyone.

The Wildcats built a 14-7 halftime lead and seemingly were on the way to taking care of their business, but the Knights demonstrated their championship mettle in the second half.

Hudson Humble threw touchdown passes to Ryan Taylor and Arshawn Spann in a 3½-minute span and Heights’ feisty defense played shutout ball after halftime to seize a 24-14 victory over Temple, completing the Knights’ second straight perfect district season.

Although the Wildcats (7-3, 3-3) had their three-game winning streak snapped, they did get the help they needed. Second-place Hewitt Midway (9-1, 5-1) rolled to a 56-26 win Thursday at Copperas Cove (6-4, 3-3), creating a three-way tie for third between ... Click here to read full article
