The Panthers had other plans Friday night.
Junior workhorse Lathan Whisenton rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, and Midway’s stingy defense shut out Temple in the final three quarters and allowed 205 total yards as the Panthers methodically defeated the Wildcats 27-7 at Panther Stadium.
Temple senior Cavalli Nealy rushed for 126 yards with a 59-yard touchdown, but the Wildcats (4-2, 0-2) mustered only 31 yards passing and committed two turnovers. Senior quarterback Champ Mayo (3-of-10 passing, 11 yards) played the first half in his return from a Sept. 5 collarbone injury, then sophomore Kylan Basinger played the second half.
Temple likely must win at least three of its last four games to earn a second straight Class 6A playoff berth.
