One big reason for that was Temple’s 31-28 loss to Killeen Shoemaker — on a field goal as time expired — in its District 12-6A opener Sept. 26 at Wildcat Stadium, snapping the Wildcats’ 12-game win streak against the Grey Wolves.
Another reason is that the next game for Temple (4-1) — which had its open date last week — is another difficult challenge in the form of star running back Lathan Whisenton and nemesis Hewitt Midway (5-1 overall, 1-1 district), whose Panthers won 66-47 at Shoemaker last week and will host the Wildcats at 7 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium.
The Temple-Midway winner will remain in prime contention for the 12-6A championship and seize the inside track to earn the district’s No. 1 seed for the Class 6A Division I playoffs and the accompanying first-round home game.
