Seniors Champ Mayo and Ramauhn Brown connected for a 59-yard touchdown pass on the game’s first play from scrimmage and also hooked up for second-quarter scoring strikes of 16 and 30 yards to spark Temple to a 42-18 victory over Nuevo Leon of Mexico.
“It felt really good. The guys did a good job all week executing that play. It’s our first play in practice every day and they like to have fun with it,” President said about the opening bomb from Mayo to Brown. “To execute it on the first play of the first game, there couldn’t be a better start to the 2025 season.”
Temple also got a 52-yard touchdown pass from Mayo to senior Preston Thomas in the third quarter and TD runs of 1 yard by sophomore Eric Shelly and 23 yards from senior Cavalli Nealy (123 yards on 16 carries) as the Wildcats churned out 512 yards total offense in the opening win for the 28-year-old President, Temple’s former star receiver and quarterback.
Brown made eight catches for 143 yards and the three scores, and Thomas compiled 95 yards on four receptions.
