DUNCANVILLE - After a day of heavy rain at the Tem-Cat Softball Field, Game one of the Best of 3 series finally started on Friday at Duncanville.

Temple and Duncanville were engaged in a pitching duel between Temple's Brooke Knox and the Lady Panthers Iselah Johnson. The two teams were knotted up at 1-1 in the sixth before a pair of Tem-Cat errors and a Jacie Patterson RBI triple led to a pair of sixth inning runs for the Lady Panthers and a 3-1 victory over Temple in the Game 1 series opener.

Temple responded in the top of the seventh with a 2-out single from Nani Rubio and Ava Machuca reaching on an infield error. However, Iselah Johnson struck out Glory Foreman to end the game and hand Duncanville a 1-0 series lead.

Temple will try to respond on Saturday when they will host Duncanville at 2:00 pm for Game 2 to even the series. If successful, Game 3 will be played 30 minutes following Game 2.

Duncanville took an early 1-0 lead in the first only to see the Tem-Cats respond in the second with a leadoff double from Jordyn Valdez and score on a Nani Rubio RBI double to left. That would tie the score at 1-1, a score that would hold until the sixth.

Temple outhit the Lady Panthers 5-3, but 4 costly errors hurt a brilliant pitching performance from Brooke Knox who went 5.0 innings giving up zero earned runs on just 3 hits.

Nani Rubio and Lilliana Gandara accounted for four of the hits as each went 2-3 with Rubio hitting a double and collecting an RBI. Jordyn Valdez picked up the fifth hit for Temple going 1-3 with a double and run scored.
