Temple bows to Heights, enters must-win mode to clinch playoff spot

HARKER HEIGHTS — Temple’s playoff chances took another dip Tuesday, though the Wildcats still have life as they eye the close of the regular season later this week.

Harker Heights turned away Temple behind Cooper Reaves’ three-hit complete game Friday then used a combined three-hitter from Seth Martin and Gian Martinez to dispose of the ’Cats 9-1 on Tuesday to finish off a sweep in their two-game league series.

The Wildcats (7-18-1, 4-7 District 12-6A), who never led in the two-game set and suffered their fourth straight loss, entered the series finale against the Knights (20-6-1, 9-2) hanging onto the league’s fourth-place spot by a half-game over Killeen Shoemaker — which had a bye Tuesday — and Bryan, which faced Killeen to close out its regular-season slate.

Temple finishes the regular season Friday by hosting Shoemaker, which they beat 7-6 in the teams’ first meeting. The Wildcats also took both games... Click here to read full article
