EDINBURG - Four members of the Tem-Cat powerlifting team made the long journey on Thursday to Edinburg for the THSWPA Unequipped State Championships.
The return to Temple was all smiles as the Tem-Cats earned a 2nd Place finish in the team standings and brought home a pair of state champions in Jazaria Clinton and Nani Rubio.
With all lifters setting personal records in at least two of their three lifts, Temple finished with 14 points in the team standings and was narrowly surpassed by Alice with 15 points for the team championship.
Nani Rubio took home 1st Place in the 123lb division with lifts of 265 in the squat, 110 in the bench and 290 in the dead left for a total of 665 lbs.
Jazaria Clinton took home 1st Place in the 242+ division with lifts of 395 in the squat, 205 in the bench, 345 in the dead lift for a total of 945 lbs.
Also representing the Tem-Cats were Kaylyn Wolf in the 198 lb. division; 260 squat, 130 bench, 335 dead lift, 725 lbs. total and Mariah Gaines in the 220 lb division; 280 squat, 125 bench, 315 dead lift and 720 lbs. total.
