While the setback was not in the plan for Aguilar, it was nothing new after he missed his entire sophomore season with a broken ankle, an injury he credits as helping develop the attitude that helped him overcome the hardships he faced at the regional meet.
“It really switched my mindset a little bit, not to take anything for granted, to just put 100 percent into every match,” he said. “So that helped me to get through.”
